Research Paper and Works Cited page on hurricane sandy - Essay Example Power failures were noticed in different regions that were attacked by the storm. Approximately quarter of million people were affected by the problems related to the electricity. Authorities have reported that at least sixteen people have died in different states due to the storm (Borden 1). The President has tagged it as a national disaster. Due to the storm many towns have been affected, which is giving an image of a ghost town. The storm was so powerful that it had affected the barriers and other deployments that were meant for protection. The residents of different towns claim that they have not seen such a storm in their lives. The storm had not only affected the lives of general people but along with it, it had also affected the political campaigns that were taking place. Many of the campaign events and voting centres were closed down due to the storms. Government and other such offices too were closed down so as to avoid casualties and other risks. Major transportation systems were closed down and people whose lives were threatened by the storms were moved to safe areas by the authorities. In some states such as Washington the government employees were told to stay at safer places and announcements were made that certain and specific transportation services would be closed. Those passengers who were to travel by plane were also affected as their flights were cancelled due to the risks involved. Due to arrival of the storm major bridges were closed for cars and speed limits on the highways were reduced (Borden 1). The arrival of the storm has influence many sectors of the society such as schools and universities even. Many other transportation service providers such as the cab drivers were charges extra fares. Similarly financial and other institutions that play a pivotal role were also affected and their operations were closed. However, President Obama cancelled all his campaign events, keeping in mind the problems that were caused by the storm. The

Journal Entry Essay Example for Free
Journal Entry Essay The ability of change to become manifested in both man and environment gives each one the opportunity to create meaning in each action and scenario. Such idea can be taken either in a positive or negative manner and is dependent on the mindset and the relevant impact in can contribute to man and the environment. Seeing this, it change is inevitable however it has brought about different dimensions in understanding how it influences manââ¬â¢s actions or the formation of a scenario. Reflecting on the works of Faulkner, Capote and Weschler, one theme may circumvent in their reading ââ¬â change. However their main difference is the way it was addressed and embodied by the characters in the story. I argue that these manifestations are necessarily generated by the choices we constantly make in our life. These in turn affect our environment as a whole as we try our best to adhere to the trends and standards of societal life. This in turn results in the transformation of customary beliefs, values and ideals of an individual to suit such need. Furthermore, it is with these decisions that we gain contentment and satisfaction in our ways. With the different challenges and distractions happening in our lives today, one may find it difficult to look for the appropriate ways that can make them happy. However, like the character of the old woman in Faulknerââ¬â¢s story, the path towards this may seem simple her eyes. For my part, I feel that by removing and distancing myself to these norms, I can get a glimpse of what I want and generate ideas that can provide satisfaction or contentment on my part. Such can contribute to the creation of meaning as I find ways to answer the questions and issues of my life.

Causes And Impact Of Global Warming
Causes And Impact Of Global Warming The global warming means that our plants temperature rises which happened as a result of the human activities and industries. Global warming has become perhaps the most complicated issue facing the world leaders in order to protect the planet and the future .The earth has warmed by about 1Ã °F over the past 100 years. Why it is happened The scientist in the past decades was not sure, but now they know that the most prominent cause being man-made pollution. This pollution happened because of the human activities that produce carbon dioxide or as known greenhouse gas, which traps heat within the atmosphere of the earth and contributes to global warming which is yet another. Large part of the pollution is happened because of burning the fuels in order to power the internal combustion engine vehicles and as we know that the number of the cars , trainers , ships the air planes are increasing day by day without widespread alternative energy sources which actually increase the effects on the global warming . Burning coal to produce electricity as well as use it to move the trains is another meaning of fossil fuels that produce more carbon dioxide. On the other hands, the scientist found that the main cause of global warming is the human. The human attributed in increasing the carbon dioxide by their normal requirements such as breathing process, food, electricity and transport, but these requirements are increasing day by day, by the increasing in the number of the population that live in our planets. The agriculture contributes in global warming because the farmers use many different types of fertilizers and the dung produced by cattle which produce prominent source of methane that affect the atmosphere. The global warming has many complications and has a huge affects in the earth. It threatened the human life the quality of life in the direct and indirect way. Many statistics show that the number of chronic diseases and lung diseases has been increase comparing with the last decades which is associated directly to the global warming. The changing in the food supplies, water and the weather is the indirect way impact on global warming which leads the humans to be uncomfortable and threatened about his essential needs and requirements. Similarly, the global warming has affected the other living things such as animas plants and the increasing in the temperatures cause many animals species to lose their habitat like polar bears and tropical frogs. The animal migration patterns have been irregular and hugely affected by changing in the climate. Animal extinction is the most serious result of global warming , According to the Intergovernmental Panel on (IPCC), an increase in global temperature by 1.5 to 2.5 degrees will make 20 to 30 percent of species vulnerable to extinction, while a rise of about 3.5 degrees will make 40 to 70 percent species vulnerable to extinction. On the other hand, the global warming impact on non living thing. The global cause change on the natural terrain characteristics of the earth such as the sea level to be rise several meters which leads to cause many of the low lying areas to submerge underwater and which could displace millions of people. In Maldives, is already starting to look for a new home because of sea levels rising .Melting huge amount of ice such as whole of the Antarctic ice sheet melts may cause the global sea level is expected to rise by 10.5 meters. Also , The acidic rain and the climate affect the agriculture and the human architecture. The Acidic rain is resulted from combination of carbon dioxide with the rain which cause a massive crop failures over time . Moving the sands and the desert to the living area is another cause of global warming which usually called deforestation especially in the tropical forests for wood, pulp, and farmland. All of these factors has been contributed in 90% chance that 3 billion people worldwide will have to choose between moving their families to milder climes and going hungry due to climate change within 100 years. Because of previous affects of the global warming , many scientists argue about the issue of climate change , some was thinking that it is a very slow process and it need years and years to affect directly the human life and be threatened .Other opinion was a against this opinion and they consider that they forget that the factors which cause global warming are rapidly rising and if we could not control it now at the present time it will be difficult to control it in the future and they expected that these factors will rise at a faster rate in the future. I think that we have already done enough damage to our planets , and we may not live to face the direct consequences of global warming , but it is our duty to protect our planet now and control our activities in order to reduce the global warming or until the scientist find an efficient , working solution for global warming . It is our duty to gift a safty, healthy planet for our grand grand children and to the future generation . Also it is their right to have a healthy safe planet similar to thats belongs to our grand fathers . First: how global warming affects the UAE in particular The global warming has been noted in all the countries in the whole world including the UAE . The global warming affects the UAE in many ways . It cause an increase in the temperature which affect the agriculture and the life under the sea . Recently , the UAE News was warning the people from consuming some type of fish because its already dead by the phenomenon of red tides that attacks the UAE beaches specifically in Dibba Al Fujairah . This phenomena not only kill the fish but it also affect the human overall health because it cause respiratory irritation like coughing, sneezing, and tearing when the red tide organism is present along a coast . The global warming also cause the desertification where more sand move into living areas and affect the movement and transportation of peoples . Desertification may affect the agricultural crops because the tons of sands buried the crops plants . On the other hand , the UAE regions could significantly increase temperatures because of global warming which may affect the tourism in the UAE and influence the economy. In detail , the UAE economy depend mostly in the tourists and tourism , so any change or decrease on the total number of tourist that will cause a decrease in the financial income and economical problems . The UAE life , despite being quite a small population , is contributes produce high amount of carbon dioxide which increase the global warming. The statistics of the UAE show that the increase in CO2 emissions is within the range of 33% and 35% between 1997 2006 and this precentage may increase in the next years (Energy Information Administration. , 2008). The UAE has one of the highest carbon footprints on a per capita tonne basis in the world. In fact, four of the worst offenders are from the GCC Qatar, UAE, Bahrain and Kuwait. (Global warming could displace millions in the Middle East , 2008) Second : What should we do here what is the role of the UAE What should the UAE do Because of the high percentage carbon dioxide , the UAE governments and people should cooperate together in order to reduce the outcome gases and control its impact on the global warming . Recently , UAE has become a member in the earth hour and encourage people to switch off the electricity for 1 hour in order to reduce carbon dioxide gas which at least will help to reduce the affect on the global warming . UAE do not view the earth hour as only electricity shut down, but they also view it as a chance to educate the people about the global warming and the importance of the cooperation to solve this problem , so as we observe from last couple weeks , many people from different age and gender were worry for the mother earth and they involve in the earth hour . In 27th of January 2009 , the UAE signs statute establishing the International Renewable Energy Agency, IRENA , the purpose of this agency is to focus in renewable energy is one of the key solutions to the current challenges facing the worlds energy future and the global warming . Many countries are involve in IRENA and they foster the production and use of renewable energy through different approaches. The UAE believe on the importance of energy as a main driver for the economic growth and they trust that renewable energy is crucial to the worlds future safety . The UAE governments launched the Estidama Program and the Pearls green building rating system which would become integrated into the building code and the launch of the Emirates Green Buildings Council . The Estidama Program can be considered as an important step towards low carbon emission buildings in the UAE which buildings plays a key role in protecting the environment, reducing energy consumption and checking on energy efficiency . This would help to improve the energy usage and the water required for cooling properties in the hot summers. Similarly to Estidama program , the UAE government started to develop the worlds greenest city in Abu Dhabi . The government started before several years to find a friendly way to produce the energy with minimum amount of gases , zero waste city, a silicon valley for renewable energy. Masdar city will be the global home of Renewable Energy .This city focuses on the complete value chain of the renewable energy sector and claims once ready , it will be a carbon neutral place to live where no cars will be allowed to enter. Masder is the new clean future for our next generation and it is the model to encourage other cities to follow . Masder support the human right believe in the future generation rights , so it is very unique , modern idea . The government of UAE encourage the renewable energy and believe that it is the future . The solar-hydrogen energy system is one of the newest energy that used in the UAE , in order to reduce the pressure on the oil usage and to find new technology that is friendly to our environment . The government put many precious awards to encourage the people and the companies to use this clean energy source . Zayed Future Energy Prize Awards is one of the biggest energy awards that encourage the clean, alternatives energy use inside our country and the prizes reach up to $1.5 million Dollar. All of this awards are reflect the view of our governments which summarize in few words when HH General Sheikh Mohammed said In commemoration of this humanitarian approach, the award was established to recognize and motivate creative minds and innovators in the field of renewable energy, with the ultimate purpose of maintaining a healthy and clean environment for future generations, The UAE government put many Policies and legislations to reduce the energy demand . For example , the government put many roles to reduce the number of the cars use in the streets by increasing the fuel prices . In Dubai , and recently Abu Dhabi started to put fees in some parking which is usually lied in the middle of the cities . There is something new called Salik which is means in Arabic open or clear , and it is the latest generation technology in tolling, working without battery , it is like the street fees which is mainly purpose to avoid the traffic jam and reduce the number of vehicles , so the amount of the gases will be reduce especially in the main streets . Also , the governments in the UAE try to reduce the burning the fuels by encouraging the population to use the big buses rather than the private cars . In Dubai , for example , the governments try to reduce the number of the cars by building the Metro which connect multiple places in the city , and they are thinking now to connect all the UAE cities together in order to reduce the total number of cars in the country and make the transportation more easy safe . What about us the people role in the UAE is very important in spreading the awareness about the global warming . Understanding and believing of the problem is the first steps . The mother earth give us everything we need for life and its is very important to give her back by protecting her and stop the damage . The people role is to spread the knowledge through the awareness campaigns and Media . We have to teach ourselves and our children how to reduce our carbon foot prints in order to avoid the global warming from being very serious problem . I think what the UAE government does now is very important, because they believe on protecting our planet , but I think it is not enough to make a huge reduction in the bad outcomes gases . UAE government should increase the fees on the public taxies and private cars , so this will encourage the people to use the public buses or the metro . Also , they should be more strict on the laws policies regarding the manufactories because it usually produce high amount of toxics . The recycle process should be a law and not a suggestion and any manufacture do not follow have to pay fees or even close it because the environment and its effect on our health is more important than production items . The people and government should cooperate in order to get the high benefits . Conclusion : Summary support the thesis + opinion . My notes : IT is still not enough , tax for the private car , In the UAE, and as an important oil producer with the fifth largest proven oil reserves in the Middle East, we also believe on the importance of energy as a main driver for our economic growth and sustainable living. UAE trust that renewable energy is crucial to the worlds future prosperity. Abu Dhabis Plan 2030 establishes a clear vision for sustainability as the foundation of any new development occurring in the Emirate and capital city of Abu Dhabi. This commitment is a reflection of the values and ideals of our nation. The tenets of sustainable living in the Middle East is the guiding force behind Estidama. More than just a sustainability program, Estidama is the symbol of an inspired vision for governance and community development.

I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings: Chapter 25 Notes :: essays research papers
Chapter 25 1.à à à à à In this chapter, Maya and Bailey are introduced to the idea of being moved to California, this being because of Baileyââ¬â¢s incident with a murdered black man. 2.a)à à à à à In this chapter Maya Angelou gives us some more insight on Mammaââ¬â¢s character, she establishes the reason for Mammaââ¬â¢s secretive and over-protective nature ââ¬Å"Her African-bush secretiveness and suspiciousness had been compounded by slavery and confirmed by centuries of promises made and promises broken. We have a saying among Black Americans, which explains Mammaââ¬â¢s caution. ââ¬Ë If you ask a Negro where heââ¬â¢s been, heââ¬â¢ll tell you where heââ¬â¢s goingââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ (Angelou 164). In this paragraph Maya Angelou lets us know why Negroes at that time were so shielding of their privacy and how this related to Mamma telling them a ââ¬Ëpart truthââ¬â¢ to cover up the ââ¬Ëreal truthââ¬â¢ for them being sent away. Maya effectively develops Mamma through the situation that occurred when Bailey came home in horror ââ¬Å" ââ¬Ë When I passed the calaboose, some men had just fished him out of the pond. He was wrappe d in a sheet, all rolled up like a mummy, and then a white man walked over and pulled the sheet off. The man was on his back but the white man struck his foot under the sheet and rolled him over on the stomach.ââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ (Angelou 167). Mammaââ¬â¢s instinct told her to get those kids out of there, no child should have to witness the atrocity of a murdered body. ââ¬Å" Whatever the real reason, The Truth, for taking us to California, I shall always think it lay mostly in an incident in which Bailey had the leading partâ⬠(Angelou 165). Mammaââ¬â¢s action to get the children away solidifies the readers faith in her as being a strong, powerful and caring individual. c)à à à à à A story that illustrates life in those times is Baileyââ¬â¢s incident by the river. This illustrates the racism and unfairness against Negroes, and the senseless violence against them. ââ¬Å"Then a white man walked over and pulled the sheet off. The man was on his back but the white man stuck his foot under the sheet and rolled him over on the stomachâ⬠¦ My, he had no color at all. He was bloated like a ball.â⬠(Angelou 167) Any white person could kill a black person, and instead of being punished they were congratulated and given encouragement. Also, the black people had become desensitized so seeing their own people murdered since it was a frequent occurrence.

Andre Ampere Biography
Andre Ampere biography Andre-Marie Ampere & Electromagnetism Andre-Marie Ampere was first, a Frenchman, second a physicist and third a mathematician. Andre was born on 20 January in the year 1775 at the Parish of St. Nizier, Lyon, France. During his childhood his father tried to teach him Latin, but he found that Andreââ¬â¢s interests and abilities lied in the study of mathematics. Certainly, Andre cherish the time that his father spent teaching him, for later, during the French Revolution, his father was captured and executed.Andre met Julie Carron in 1796 and married her three years later. Around the same time, Andre tutored in mathematics, chemistry, and languages. He moved to Bourg-en-Bresse, to teach physics and chemistry in 1801. Unfortunately his wife died two years later leaving him with their infant son, Jean-Jacques Ampere. Andre was appointed the professor of mathematics at the University of Lyon just one year later. In 1809, Andre Ampere was appointed professor of math ematics at the Polytechnic school in Paris. He was admitted as a member of the Institute in 1814 and in 1820, after H.C. Orstedââ¬â¢s discovery that a magnetic needle is acted on by a voltaic current, Andre sent a paper of his own to the Academy that was much more detailed. He didnââ¬â¢t wait, on September 18, 1820, the very same day that he sent his paper, he presented a demonstration to the Academy that parallel wires with electric currents would pull or push at one another based on whether the electric currents was moving in the same or opposite directions. In demonstrating this experiment he laid the foundation of electrodynamics.Andre Ampere is best known for the Ampere Circuital Law (Ampereââ¬â¢s Law), which states that for any closed loop path, the sum of the length elements times the magnetic field in the direction of the length element is equal to the permeability times the electric current enclosed in the loop. .Andre also invented the astatic needle and the amper e was named after him. Andre led an inquisitorial life, questioning things he did not fully understand, testing the things that he thought he understood, and proving not only his own theories but the series of many that came after him.Andre Ampere practically invented the science of electromagnetism and he will always be remembered in years to come. Deadly Unna Summary
Blacky is a gutless wonder? Deadly Unna? Essay Gary Black, also know as Blacky lives near the coast of South Australia with an extended family of eight siblings. His father, Bob Black, believes Blacky is a ââ¬Ëgutless wonderââ¬â¢, consequently that leads Blacky in believing his father and is not able to show confidence in his self. Despite what he believes, his actions donââ¬â¢t always show his gutless. ââ¬ËMy own son a gutless wonderââ¬â¢ Bob Blackââ¬â¢s thoughts on his son puts a strain in their relation, causing them to have disrespect for one another.Bobââ¬â¢s thoughts also let Blacky to believe his gutless, in all, Blacky really gets frustrated, affecting his confidence and believe towards him self. ââ¬ËThe old man is right, Iââ¬â¢m a gutless f****** wonderââ¬â¢ Blacky continuously tries to prove to his father and him self that his not a ââ¬Ëgutless wonderââ¬â¢ because that was the worst anyone could be in his town. ââ¬ËI really wanted him to go to the grand final. I donââ¬â¢t know why maybe I wanted to show him that I wasnââ¬â¢t so gutlessââ¬â¢ though, it was hard for Blacky to prove him self when his father wasnââ¬â¢t around ââ¬ËExcept for the old man, of course. Read this ââ¬Å"The Secrets of Haitiââ¬â¢s Living Deadâ⬠As usual the was down at the pubââ¬â¢ Blackyââ¬â¢s father never got involved in Blackyââ¬â¢s live and never shown any interest ether ââ¬ËThe old man wasnââ¬â¢t too interested in footy. The only advice he gave me was, make sure you come off the ground exhaustedââ¬â¢, furthermore he forgets his sons age, ââ¬ËIââ¬â¢m fourteenââ¬â¢ ââ¬ËThatââ¬â¢s what I said, isnââ¬â¢t it? ââ¬â¢ Despite the negativity Blacky was surrounded in he could still find a way to stand up for him self, even though he didnââ¬â¢t know it.A number of times, Blacky thought that he couldnââ¬â¢t do something, what ever the situation might be, but at the same time he didnââ¬â¢t let his fear over take him, showing great confidence that grown as time went on. One Example was at his footy grand final at Wangaroo, Thumperââ¬â¢s home ground. At first Blacky thought he couldnââ¬â¢t do it although he also didn ââ¬â¢t want to let the team down and more importantly him self. In the end Blacky didnââ¬â¢t run away and remained on the filed, helping the team to win the grand finale and getting the tackle from thumper, which showed loyalty for his team and huge courage. While going to footy training, Blacky also gained a great friendship with an aborigine called Dumby Red. At first, Blacky knew that they wonââ¬â¢t destine to be friends because the Aborigines, also known as the Nungas and the Europeans, Goonyas were separate from each other. Blacky lived in the Port and Dumby lived in the Point. Both Dumby and Blacky didnââ¬â¢t have a lot in common and wonââ¬â¢t expect to because the town was racist about the two different cultural believes. Although they were a lot different, Dumby didnââ¬â¢t care and became great friends with Blacky. More Summary of Devil at My HeelsAs their friendships grow, Blackyââ¬â¢s views towards the racism of the aborigines changed and didnââ¬â¢t fill comfortable about the racism by the locals. Blacky starts to see his town through different eyes and starts questioning some of the things he uses to accept, like racism jokes, exclusions and stereotyping. Even though, in Blackyââ¬â¢s town not many Goonyas were friends with Nungas, Blacky didnââ¬â¢t care what others thought about him having a friend with an aborigine, their friendship built in the gap that he had between the Nungas and the Goonyas. Many people in Blackyââ¬â¢s town were involved in racism, but hardly anyone tried to fix it. It took great courage to accept that he was wrong about racism and donââ¬â¢t care to be mates with Dumby, furthermore trying to help the town see his way. That had shown a lot of guts. Every one in Blacky town was involved in racism, but because the lack of people wanting to change it was h ard for anyone in fixing it, though that didnââ¬â¢t stop him in trying.Blacky particularly felt guilty about the graffiti around his town ââ¬ËBOONGS PISS OFFââ¬â¢ and because he was a great friends with Dumby, he didnââ¬â¢t fill comfortable that the graffiti was there and wanted to fix the problem ââ¬ËIââ¬â¢m getting more and more ashamedââ¬â¢ Blacky realized he shouldnââ¬â¢t wait for someone else to paint over the graffiti and should do it him self. Blacky risked in fixing the relation with his father by getting his best paints and brushes to paint over the graffiti, which took a lot of guts if you wore afraid of your father. After Dumby pasted away in a shooting, Blacky was devastated and felt really low, so he wanted do some thing to remember Dumby which took great courage to ask people to remember some one who they wore racist to. In the end Blacky found him self surprised and disappointed that know one wanted to help him remember his best mate Dumby, they wore ether to afraid of the aborigineââ¬â¢s reaction if the they went to Dumbyââ¬â¢s funeral ââ¬ËBut I donââ¬â¢t think youââ¬â¢d be welcome.Itââ¬â¢s for people out there at the point. Itââ¬â¢s their business, not oursââ¬â¢ or they didnââ¬â¢t care. Despite people thoughts to Blackyââ¬â¢s idea that wasnââ¬â¢t enough to change his mind. Blacky rejected Cathyââ¬â¢s invitation to her go way party, which took huge amount of guts because he really liked her and he also rejected his fatherââ¬â¢s fishing trip, were Bob Black gave his son another chance going fishing with him. Blacky was finally going to do what he thought was right. ââ¬ËI didnââ¬â¢t care what anyone said.Tomorrow I was going to Dumbyââ¬â¢s funeralââ¬â¢ and it took huge amounts of courage for a Goonya to go in Nungas territory, were Dumby was buried ââ¬ËThe point Aboriginal reserve- No entry without prior permissionââ¬â¢ At the beginning of the chapter Blacky was afrai d of his father because he was unpredictable, for instance when they went fishing, one minute he was all calm the next he would be frustrated and yelling at Blacky. Consequently, Blacky chanced his thoughts about his father and stood up to him when he yelled at ââ¬Ëyouââ¬â¢re trying to kill us!You hate usââ¬â¢ but then his father banned him for ever going fishing with him and that he was a ââ¬Ëgutless wonderââ¬â¢ Though when he was given another chance to go fishing with him, Blacky rejected his invitation and went to Dumbyââ¬â¢s funeral, where he believed he had to go and pay respects to his mate, making a courageous decision. Blacky also took his fathers best paintbrushes and paints to paint over the racist graffiti, even though he was afraid of his father and knowing he treasured his paints and brushes.Has time past he wasnââ¬â¢t afraid to tell his father what he thought and believed, showing great strength within. As you progresses through the story Deadly U nna? You find Blacky leaning to standing up for him self through out the year, instead of standing on the sidelines. After becoming great mates with Dumby, which is another courageous thing to do when the Nungas and the Goonyas are racist towards each other, Blacky begins to see his town through different eyes and start questioning what he use to accept as funny jokes. Blacky realizes that he houldnââ¬â¢t sit and wait for others to do his work. He finds him self standing up to his father so he could do something thing about the racism towards the Nungas by erasing the racist graffiti in town. Blacky shows great amounts of courage by not caring about being friends with an aborigine and great amount of guts in going through town and see if anyone wants to help him in doing something to remember Dumby, after his mate got shot and despite all the rejection from every one else he still went to Nungas territory for Dumbyââ¬â¢s funeral. So, according to Blackyââ¬â¢s actions and per sistence through out the book he shows more guts then any one, even though if he didnââ¬â¢t know it at the start. Do you think anyone knows if their courageous in the beginning? I think a person has gut and is courageous when they do whatââ¬â¢s right, something that Blacky had done through out the book. The novel has a lot of racism in it. Many people are involved in racism, but hardly anyone tries to mend it. Gary knows racism is around, but because of the lack of anyone wanting to change it, he finds it difficult to mend it.Dumby also tries to fix it from his point of view. The Aboriginal community also doesnââ¬â¢t want to fix the problem. Gary and Dumbyââ¬â¢s family try to make changes but they are not on a very large scale. Most of the adults are racist. Not all of them know that they are racist; the only one mentioned was Darcy, because he says that they are all sluts with the clap. The butcher that wrote the racist graffiti on the wall is definitely racist, and Gar y knows that he is racist. Racism takes many from in the story; five aspects in the novel are racial jokes, racial abuse, racist people, exclusion and stereotypes.
